Horses for Courses
There is no such thing as the “Social Season” in Russia at the moment, but there are some annual events which the beau monde have marked in their social calendar. One of them is the Grand Prix Radio Monte Carlo at the Hippodrome. Until the 1917 Revolution, horseracing was a favourite pastime of the upper classes in Russia (remember the steeplechase in Anna Karenina) and today the Moscow smart set seems determined to recreate as many of the old ways of High Society as they can. Just as at Royal Ascot, Chantilly or Lexington Park, some people will go to look at the horses, and the gamblers will go for the betting; but the fashionable people will go to look at each other.
When: 29 May, racing starts at 1pm Where: Central Moscow Hippodrome, 22 Ul. Begovaya, Building 1
