Out and About

BISM Children’s Harvest Festival

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Yasenevo, a stone’s throw from the MKAD, is the British International School’s Southern Campus Primary School. ¹4 out of a group of nine schools, we are home to 110 students aged between three and eleven, and a committed team of staff.

At this time of year in the UK, many primary schools are celebrating the Harvest Festival, an age-old tradition commemorating the gathering-in of crops from the fields, and giving thanks for what the earth has produced. Most if not all schools make a collection of food and then donate what they have accumulated to local charities.

During the last couple of weeks, the students and families at BISM ¹4 have also been collecting food as our own recognition of this time of harvest. Thanks to a wonderful effort by our school community, we have gathered together over 100 tins and jars of preserved food.

On Monday 7th November we were very pleased to welcome Lindsey Snow from the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy to receive the food that we had collected, in order that it may be used in their ongoing social projects around the city. We also presented her with a donation of 20,000 roubles that had been raised by our school community earlier in the year, as well as some baskets for use at MPC’s forthcoming Harvest Gala.

Our school has supported the work of MPC during the last few years, through various events that we have held, and we look forward to continuing this partnership. Lindsey shared her thoughts following our assembly:

“MPC Social Services is thrilled to partner yet again with the British International School in raising both awareness in the lives of the children and resources for the marginalized populations we serve each week. The students this year have really impressed us with their enthusiasm and dedication to raising funds and donated cans to our Refugee Food Program.”

“The British International School has been a consistent supporter of the work of MPC Social Services. Over the past several years, we have partnered together to create transformative change within the poor and marginalized communities of Moscow.”

“The children of the British International School have risen to the challenge of meeting a need in their own community. I am continually impressed with their ever-growing knowledge and understanding of what it means to impact someone else’s life in meaningful and enduring way

Our next project, in conjunction with our Central Campus school ¹9, is our annual clothing collection for MPC’s clothes bank and also our ‘shoebox appeal’ for an orphanage in Ryazan region: collecting toys, games, books and other items to make up small boxes of presents for around 70 children aged between 6-17. We have supported this outreach for the last few years. At the time of writing we already have ten bags of assorted books and toys, and are about to take delivery of some clothing donations from International Apparel.

The spirit of it being more blessed to give than to receive is rubbing off onto our students: our junior school children are now asking when we are starting to collect items for charity and what they and their families can do to help.

If you would like to support what we are doing or can donate clothes/toys/books etc. then please send me an e-mail or give me a call on +7-916-660-0253. I would be delighted to hear from you.
