Let’s Party!
If you are in Moscow for Christmas and New Year, then you will want to know where is the best place to celebrate and party. Here are some of the places where we at Passport Magazine think you will have the most fun:

Hotels:

Baltschug Kempinski Hotel

If you like to celebrate with a great view, then the Baltschug has to be at or near the top of everybody’s list. You can sit in the Restaurant Baltschug and enjoy a view of St Basil’s, Red Square and the Kremlin. We like the sound of their New Year plans, with entertainment and a wonderful menu which includes: Beluga Caviar (56g); Lobster and John Dory Fish; Pigeon Pot au Feu with Puff Pastry and Perigord Truffle; Veal Fillet with Truffles; Champagne Mousse.

Golden Ring Hotel

There are two New Year offers: A romantic candlelight dinner, with excellent wines at the Panorama Restaurant. It starts at 10 pm and is followed up by an entertainment programme, with live music, show ballet, magicians, a theatrical performance and lottery. Also, New Year’s Voyage at the Winter Garden of the Panorama Restaurant with a ballet show, extended buffet, live music, contests and fireworks. Special room rates are available to guests celebrating New Year at the hotel, with a late champagne breakfast offered morning of January 1st.

National Hotel

The National is offering a “Russian New Year Fairytale” with views of the Kremlin, in its “Moscow”, “Vladimir”, “Yaroslavl” and “St Petersburg” dining rooms. Guests will be served a four-course dinner, and will have access to the open bar throughout the night. There will also be a special entertainment programme with concerts, a ballet show, magician and New Year lottery. Price: 23,000 roubles per person for tables next to the window, and 20,000 roubles for the rest. Tel.: 258-7043/258-7094. Metropol Hot el If you are looking for a classical New Year party, with dinner, concert, performances, numerous surprises, lottery and a laser show, then we suggest the Metropol. The menu looks as if you could be eating all night: Meat, Game and Fish appetizers; Hot appetizer; Cranberry sorbet; Lobster with boletus, cognac sauce & sauteed celery; Mixed cheese platter; Fresh fruits; Dessert.
To drink : Moet & Chandon champagne, Kauffman vodka, soft drinks, French white and red wine.

SwissOtel Krasnye Holmy

This is the hotel housed in the circular tower. The City Space Bar and Lounge on the 33rd floor – the highest spot in town – invites you to celebrate Christmas with champagne, wine, tapas and canapes, with soft house music from 5pm to 3am. The Concerto Bar will have Christmas carols from 5pm onwards, and a five-course Italian dinner is offered at Concerto Ristorante. For New Year, Swissotel throws a New Year Resolution Party on the 33rd floor at the City Space Bar and Lounge. Executive Lounge on the 19th floor has its own party with a Champagne ice-bar on the terrace, and an Eskimo furs dress code.

Mariot Grand Hotel

This is for those of you who are fond of Broadway musicals. The five-star Marriott Grand Hotel invites guests to celebrate the coming New Year in the company of Esmeralda and Frollo, Roxie Hart and Billy Flynn, among other characters of famous Broadway musicals. There will be performances of extracts from “Notre Dame de Paris”, “Chicago”, “Cats”, as well as dances and songs from other musicals.
Price: 17,500 roubles per person for the “Grand Alexander,” and 14,000 roubles for the “Samobranka”. Tickets for the New Year show will be available for sale from December 11, 2006, at the Marriott Grand Hotel.

Sheraton Palace Hotel

The Sheraton celebrates Catholic Christmas on the 24th of December with a jazz brunch at the restaurant “Lomonosov.” For New Year there is an “Around the World on a New Year’s Night” theme party. The entertainment programme for the evening includes live music, competitions, lottery, special dancing programme, water-pipe room, fortune telling, an all-inclusive buffet, and a wide choice of alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks. A special programme and menu for children is prepared.

Planernoye Hotel

Chicago in the 30s” is the theme of their New Year celebrations. Guests will be entertained with great music, special New Year surprises and a show with Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, live jazz band, special photography project, best musical pieces from the musical “Chicago,” professional swing dancing, casino and other exciting events. The dress code is black tie – men in suits and women in evening dresses.

Restaurants:

CafE Roset

If you like to do things with real style, then you can take Cafe Roset for the entire evening for you and your guests. The restaurant seats up to 100 people. CarE Blanc Restaurant

There will be a “Christmas Charity Gala” on the 13th of December 2006 starting at 7:30 pm. The programme includes an auction of paintings and jewellery from Indian “Haute Couture,” a special candlelight dinner and dancing, all accompanied by live saxophone music. Money from the event will be donated to an orphanage.

Genatsvale on the Arbat

We like this restaurant very much; for the atmosphere, the food, and the entertainment. Genatsvale offers a special New Year’s programme that runs from 11 pm till early morning. The programme includes national Georgian dances, Georgian music and singing, and, of course, the wonderful Georgian food. Price: $150 per person, all included. Tel.: 203-9453. Scan dinav ia Resta urant From December 11 th to December 28th Scandinavia is offering a traditional Swedish Christmas menu, with drinks, including hot gleg and punch. On 13th of December the restaurant will celebrate the day of St Lucia.

Central House of Writers

For an atmosphere straight out of the 19th century we like the Central House of Writers, which offers a festive menu in its “Oak Room. On the 31st of December, the restaurant will be open until 10 pm, but you can order, and they will deliver.

Uzbekistan

We like the sound of their musical show “Eurovision in Uzbekistan” or “Become a star in the Beginning of the Year!” Everybody will have a chance to show off their musical talents, and a professional jury will strictly evaluate the performers. The programme includes champagne, New Year’s menu, entertainment presents, and a photo shoot of your performances.

Catering:

Cuisine 31

If you are planning to hold a Christmas or New Year party at home, and do not have either the skills or the time to cook something special for your guests, we recommend Cuisine 31, a kitchen-factory offering French dishes made to order. Led by the French chef, Eric le Provos, who used to be at Carre Blanc, Cuisine 31 does all the cooking for you, including desserts and bakery, and delivers the dishes to the venue. All you have to do is heat up the dishes according to the attached instructions. We love the idea!
