English Village Fete
Text and photos by John Bonor

The Moscow Village Fete in September was a great success. This, the Second Annual Fete last year, saw a larger and a younger crowd. Opened by the new British Embassy Minister and Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Laurie Bristow, the fete went straight into fun and games with the DHL “Wheel of Fortune” doing a blistering trade. The cake baking contest was judged by the Courtyard by Marriot Head Chef, Nick Van Riemsdijk. After much tasting, the banana cake won. There was music and dancing from Taganka Children’s fund who also manned the children’s creche. Warrens Sausages did a roaring trade with freshly cooked British Bangers and the Courtyard by Marriott’s Cream teas were second to none. The event rounded off after the raffl e with a “Tug-O-War” competition between two men’s teams followed by the mixed children’s teams.
